Training & Highwaymans

Taylor has had a busy half term with getting school work finished, friends staying and getting ready for Dubai. The boys will fly out on Wednesday with Brian Dunbavin for just over a week. The Nad Al Sheba Shooting Championship in Dubai is starting on Sunday 1st March and will run for four days. I’m sure this experience will be a valuable one for Taylor for future years.

Thursday 20th February 2014

Philip returned from Cyprus this week so a training day was on the agenda at the Philip Thorrold Shooting Academy to get them all ready for Dubai. Philip and Ben are also going to Dubai so a full days practice was in store for all of them. Lots of different targets were smashed with some extreme targets for good measure, the only thing missing was the sun 🙂 The day was enjoyed by Taylor and he now can’t wait to get out and shoot in the sunshine.

Saturday 22nd February 2014

So today the boys headed out to our new local shooting ground, Highwaymans Shooting Ground in Risby, Suffolk. Set on a vast estate of suffolk countryside it really is a beautiful setting. The Highwaymans is a bed and breakfast on the estate which offers fantastic accommodation for anyone wishing to visit Suffolk, there is plenty of refreshments on offer too making sure all shooters are well catered for. I am sure this ground will grow into something special as time goes on but for now there was a 2 day 100 registered FITASC there this weekend. Taylor shot round with Grandad, Brian, Mick Page, Philip and Peter Simpson and Colin Saich. The weather today was definitely more like spring, blue skies and very little wind, a really perfect day for shooting. The four layouts consisted of The BMX, The Gallery, The Conifers and The Birches, all four had some fantastic targets on offer and I don’t think anyone was disappointed. Taylor scored 24, 20, 20 and 22 giving him a total of 86/100 this was enough to take his class today. Class prizes were finalised daily with the high gun running over the weekend, a very fair way to do things considering the varying weather we have. There are a few photos of the ground below and as soon as the shooting ground has its own website I will add it but for now the link will take you to the bed and breakfast. For any information on the shoots themselves contact Neil or Karen Bedingfield on 01502 271926 or 07766 904021. There is a 100 sporting on offer there on the 9th March, the boys will be there 🙂

I’m not sure how Dubai will be for them keeping in contact but if it’s ok il let you all know what I can 🙂

Hornet and Grange Farm

So this week has been full of exams and tests for Taylor and Parents Evening for us, it really is a busy time for him getting ready to start all of his final pieces and finish course work, he stays at school nearly every evening just to get ahead so that taking time off for shooting is possible, the school have been very supportive.

Saturday 25th January 2014

Brian Dunbavin picked Taylor up this morning to take him to the 100 registered FITASC at Hornet Shooting Ground. They shot round with Glen Spalding, Philip Simpson, Peter Simpson, Ivan Spencer and Becky and John McKenzie. The weather was doing ok for the best part of the day but the wind got up on Taylor’s last layout. He finished on an 80/100 not bad considering he hasn’t shot FITASC for about four years. His layouts were 21/25 20/25 23/25 16/25.

Sunday 26th Janaury 2014

Grandad, Dad, Taylor and Dean set off to Grange Farm in Leicestershire for the 100 bird registered English Sporting. Not a dry day today but Taylor kept toasty and dry in his Jack Pyke gear. Taylor finished the round today on 81/100, not a high scoring round for him but the shoot was enjoyed by all.

Thank you to Eley Hawk for getting Taylor’s 2014 Cartridges to him this week, I’m sure these will keep him going for a while 🙂
